The Sunderland Book Group is held on the second Thursday of every month and runs from 6.45pm-8pm (feel free to turn up from 6.30pm). Each month we talk about a different book (dates and full book list to the right!). Books are linked to literary events in the region and  authors occasionally drop in for a chat.

Meetings are held at The Royalty Theatre, which is just opposite off Chester Road. It does fantastic drinks and, if you’re lucky, I bring biscuits.

The idea is mainly to have fun and a chance to talk to like-minded book lovers over a drink/ cuppa and a cake and, hopefully, to broaden our collective literary horizons. Discounts on chosen books are available from Blackwells in Newcastle if you have a membership card which you can get by contacting New Writing North (contact details below). However, membership IS NOT essential and if you fancy popping in one week you will be welcomed with open arms. And it’s all completely free!

In order to receive a membership card or any further information, please contact New Writing North Headquarters. You can either e-mail olivia@newwritingnorth.com with your contact details or phone the lovely Olivia herself on (0191) 233 3850.

    Hi all,
I’ve just started book crossing and though it was something you all might like to do to. Basically, you leave books in public places, turning the world into your library. By registering the books online, you can track exactly what has happened to your book and who’s reading it now. Take a look at the site: http://www.bookcrossing.com

    Read, Recycle, Release with BookCrossing!

BookCrossing, where books have adventures of their own. BookCrossing gives you a way to share your books, clear your shelves, and conserve precious resources at the same time. Through our own unique method of recycling reads, BookCrossers give life to books. BookCrossing books are not stagnant dust collectors, but living entities travelling the world as true BookCrossing emissaries. Our books find new readers and introduce them to the wonders of BookCrossing.

So what are you waiting for? Help make the world a library and recycle at the same time, through BookCrossing!
